Hi! I'm Kip Ingram, WV5F, and you've found the ham radio section of my website. I've had a casual interest in ham radio for most of my life, and first got licensed (Technician Class - N5RYK) back in the late 1980's. Unfortunately, I did very little with the hobby for a long time. In 2019, I sat for the Amateur Extra test successfully, and these days I'm WV5F. Still, for a while life kept me busy. But I'm finally gearing up for a serious forray into the hobby.
I'm starting simple - my first rig will be a $120 eight-band QRP unit, and I've decided to use a simple 40m band inverted v dipole, on a spider pole, for my first work. I figure that going QRP will make it easier, safer, and less expensive for me to experiment. I'm an EE by trade and look particularly forward to playing with antennas, antenna tuners, and the like. Later on I hope to do much more involved work, but hey - I'll start slow and easy.
I'm creating this simple website to document it all. Soon I'll add pages covering the evolution of my gear and experimentation and establish an online log book. Hopefully I'll manage enugh disipline to keep up a radio related blog.
If you're interested in the hobby, I'd love to have you keep tabs on the site and take this journey along with me! Sunspot conditions will be getting better and better over the next two or three years, so hopefully we can have a lot of fun on the air.
73,
Kip
